The news seems true because “Instagram Subscriptions” is listed as an in-app purchase on the App Store.
In India, the App Store listing for Instagram now says that “Instagram Subscriptions” cost Rs 89 monthly. This wasn’t the case before, as Techcrunch was the first to notice. Before, the App Store listing for Instagram only showed badges that could be bought within the app for between Rs 89 and Rs 449.

Adam Mosseri, who is in charge of Instagram, gave a few hints earlier this year that the company was looking into a subscription model for content creators.
Twitter’s version of subscriptions, Twitter Blue, has already been released, so Instagram is one of many apps to offer them.
Aside from Instagram Subscriptions, the photo-sharing platform is working on other features, such as the Fan Club feature, which, as you might have guessed, is for content creators.

Mosseri mentioned three ways creators could make money when he spoke at Creator Week in June. These are selling merchandise and affiliate links, getting a share of ad revenue, and getting tips or badges.
With the coming subscription model, creators and influencers can charge their followers for certain content. This would also give creators a place to show off their best work and charge real fans who want to watch or experience it. Earlier this year, the person in charge of Instagram said they might build a market for NFTs.
Considering Instagram hasn’t announced its subscription model officially. We can assume that the platform is still testing the feature with a small group of people. But the App Store listing has told the world about Instagram. In the US, Instagram subscriptions cost between $0.99 and $4.99, suggesting that there may be more than one subscription level. We should hear more about the subscription model in the next few days or weeks.
